Just a touch of baroque glamour makes this chain-strapped clutch all the more modern. McQ Alexander McQueen has a knack for creating enhanced yet practical basics that go from super-casual to evening-appropriate in a cinch, for always-accessible prices. This flap-front clutch offers a bit of minimalism for the maximalist at heart. Textural, wrinkled black leather on a structured shoulder style reveals an intriguing bit of romanticism, à la the lacquered corner hardware. All it takes is a touch of gothic cool; this detail is so dramatic, nothing else is needed to make this bag feel special. It’s also what’s on the inside that counts. The simple flap design opens up into an organizational dream. It’s got so much room for such a small bag. Another detail: the slit pocket along the front flap is an interesting touch – and I’m not entirely sure if that’s a good or bad thing. I love to accommodate for an exterior pocket, without fuss, but this one feels unfinished, as if it belongs on the backside instead. Still, it’s not enough to make this “do” into a “don’t,” necessarily. McQ Alexander McQueen Simple Fold Clutch on Shopbop for $590.
Pair with: Carven’s deliberately crinkly skirt is right on-trend, thanks to the midi length and bubble-gum pink hue. On My Theresa for $395.
