I was so into the Spy Bag when it hit its peak a few years ago, it literally took all I had not to splurge on one. What stopped me? The two baguettes and the croissant bag now gathering dust in my closet! I remember in 2002 when I got my first baguette — at the time, as I’m sure you all recall, they were all over the place in about a million variations — I really thought I would love the bag forever. Pshwa! One of the baguettes I have is actually cream with green, pink, yellow string details, sequins, and mirror paillettes…I don’t know what I was thinking; seriously don’t think it could be more hideous! Similarly though while the spy bag is still a cute find, it has lost it’s rassle dazzle for me. Fendi is great at making trendy bags, but not so great at making timeless ones and I’ve learned from my mistakes and frustrations over wasted money on over-priced trend items. Ashley Tisdale’s Fendi Spy-Zucca Embossed Leather and Fabric Handbag retails for $2,050,but personally I wouldn’t want it for $400 at this point.
Are you as over the Spy Bag as I am?
I consider these types of bags to be in the same category as the LV monogrammed bags you posted about yesterday. Fortunately, I did not have access to enough money to purchase higher end bags before I realized that I would be wasting my money on both LV monogrammed bags and trendy Fendis!
I still like the shape.
What I dislike are the brown FFFs stamped all over the thing. I hate monograms!

Sorry ladies. This bag is a total SNOB! Who cares about the monogram? It’s a Fendi Spy Bag, which has been “in” for years and definitely isn’t a trend.
I disagree with the post. I think the monogram is ugly, but the style is practical and the style has outlived it’s fad status and dare I say, entered the classic handbag shape realm. I’ve seen some very nice examples of the Spy in beautiful leather. By the same token, horrid examples with sequence, monogram, and god awful patterns.
I am not keen on the monograms, but I like the shape of this bag. I have seen far worse than this.
Really… this bag is fugly, impractical and it ALWAYS has been. SLOB.
I think it is a slob if it is monogrammed (I feel that way about any bag that is done that way). But I have seen spybags in black leather (no monogram) and I thought it was timeless.
ewwwwwww.. anything with monogramms are ugly. ESPECIALLY FENDI.
Never liked it, won’t start now, especially this version (three different materials: plastic-like dark-brown leather for the corners; marble-like leather for the handles and the monogram for the rest… fugly)
I received this exact bag as a gift when it first came out and although I don’t like monograms as a rule, I loved it for the shape and ‘squashiness’. It felt like a pillow under my arm! I have since added to that by buying the denim version and a dark green leather Spy. I don’t care for trends but to me the Spy will always be on my ‘Do’ list.
I admit I have a couple of spy bags. I love them as they are huge inside, or medium. Cross between a hobo and a tote. When stuffed full they look great and when not so full look great. I do not go for Monogram. I usually carry the black pebble leather. I am not a Fendi snob, but when I need to carry a lot of stuff(scarfs,hat,gloves,hubby’s)it’s always my spy’s.
Actually, one of the bags in my standard rotation is a denim Mama I got about 10 years ago. The best part about it is that it packs absolutely flat, lightweight, takes up almost no room in a suitcase, and can hold a lot of stuff. I like its simple styling too.
If I splurged on a Spy I wouldn’t go for a logo, but something more understated. Maybe another denim or black leather?
I really adore the Fendi spy bag, but only in the pretty neutral leathers. The lux quality of the leather is really the only reason to buy this bag — the detailing on the handle is also quite nice. I don’t like the logo version though, or the flashy ones with all of the crap sewed into them.

If I got one as a gift I wouldn’t return it. As for Fendi logo…there’s no shame in it for true snob appeal.

But tomorrow will polish the leather up , as can’t wait to use it .xx
