I just love Phillip Lim‘s funky interpretation of a classic ladylike dress. His slightly off-kilter dress is trimmed in black for a fun play on plaid; the effect of silk-blend organza layered with finely stitched black lace is both sharp and painterly. Even the bottom has irregularly placed lace for an abstract effect that looks more like plaid shadows. The big patch pockets kick it up a notch for sporty ease; otherwise, this would be a serious grown-up dress. This piece is great to have on hand for a luncheon or dinner that’s not too dressy but requires a polished look. While you hate to show up overdressed, it is certainly preferable to being underdressed. This dress is your perfect compromise – wear it anywhere for confidence and comfort to spare. On Net-a-Porter for $895.
Pair with: Opt for a bag that’s as easy to get along with as your dress. Bally‘s handbag is structured for a lady with enough attitude to make it super-current. Bally “Rachele” Leather Tote, $1,395.
I saw this dress at Nordstrom this weekend and it definitely stood out. It is very beautiful and unique.
