Confidently masculine tailored silhouettes in fresh pastels summed up Stella McCartney’s spring show. The color palette of rose, pistachio, fresh bergamot, lavender, wild blue and yellow sorbet appeared beautifully in woven linen garments that included straight-cut jackets with cigarette sleeves and buttoned-up polos paired with flat-fronted, high-waisted cropped trousers. But this is Stella, so naturally everything had an extra kick. The statement in denim was unique: raw silk tailoring and chambray coupled with bold geometry made a statement both in proportion and volume. Silk dresses with box pleats aligned on the reverse subtly revealed skin; of particular note was the way the floral print emerged on the all-in-one with slit legs. A sleeveless trench coat with a centre back box pleat was sharp and terrific, while a bright yellow waterproof pull-over the head mac will put away any dread of spring showers. And lest we forget, the explosion botanical citrus prints cut and constructed of silk satin and rich cotton on dresses were made all the more appealing when highlighted on pleats and under collars.
