Consuelo Castiglione took an athletic approach with her spring collection. Clothes inspired by nearly every sport imaginable, from track and field to cycling to scuba diving were translated in bold stripes, prints, modernist florals, and blocks of strong color. But while sporty, they were certainly playful as well. Marni’s always been known for its inventive mix of high-tech textures and fabrics, and this collection melds neoprene and nylon with leather, silk and lace. Oversize color-blocked sports jerseys were paired with biking shorts and topped off with soft leather rugby helmuts; asymmetric tunics, worn with jogging-style trousers, came in bright spots of yellow, pink and peach. Collarless jackets, with a scuba feel, were fastened with industrial zips, detailed with drawstrings, and cinched with belts. There were more simple cutaway shift dresses layered over mesh T-shirts. It was the pinnacle of the maximalism-meets-minimalism that’s been flourishing in Milan.
