Was it the recession or just laziness that kept everyone from trying too hard when dressing for the Grammy? There was a definite feel of boredom when viewing red carpet fashion at the event. We expect the rock stars to dress down for performances but other than a few sequins, even the women were noticeably lacking. Well, of course Katy Perry was lowered on stage in a banana and wore a sparkling chiquita banana fruit dress, but other than that, the fashion on stage was as if it was a lounge act on a side stage in Vegas. The show itself however was amazing even though Rihanna and Chris Brown were MIA. Speaking of which, M.I.A. gets full props for having the humor to wear a belly revealing polka dot costume for her performance on her due date! Yes, she was supposed to give birth yesterday but somehow held it off until she took care of some business!
It was “Hit & Miss” for Basil Soda last night. Katy Perry was escorted in by her assistant holding the train on her overly flowing pink Basil Soda gown, which was one of the fashion highlights of the night. She can pull off a giant flower on her gown like no other. And the pink was the perfect shade of cute and beautiful. Paula Adbul however picked from the bottom of the pile from the designer with a yellow chiffon gown with clunky gold hardware from the junk yard. She looked like C3PO’s girlfriend.
Gwyneth Paltrow looks amazing, her impossible diet and work out routine has definitely paid off big time but she was so on trend with her Versace sequins mini-dress and gray tights that it was trite. She always knows what to wear and always looks perfect but where is the personal style?
You have to just love Jennifer Hudson. She had everyone pulling out tissues during her acceptance speech and performance. Here is a beautiful woman who knows what to wear for her body. The multi-tone RM Roland Mouret dress is brilliant for revealing her waistline and slimming the lower body. I am not ecstatic about the white bib on top but in photos it looks more sculptural and less napkin-ish as it did in person.
This is truly unfortunate because Leona Lewis is an exceptional beauty with a body that I would kill for but she wears this slinkly but boring nude dress from Randi Rham that acts like a boobie hammock. Not to be crude but be honest, that’s all you’re looking at right? Take cues from Jennifer Hudson’s stylist, know your body and be appropriate. I was going to say, “accentuate your assets” but that is what she actually did to the point of fatal flaw.
I totally love this slightly dressed down but totally embellished look from Philosophy on Leann Rhimes. The blue top totally pops against the neutral taupe bottom and the bejeweled waist band has the big belt look of the season. Everything would have been perfect if she had just brushed her hair but I guess she was going for the casual look.
SNOB LOOK OF THE NIGHT
I hate to say this because I am not her biggest fan (or actually, not at all) but Kim Kardashian had the best look of the night in her white Toni Maticevski dress. It is interesting but still looks like normal clothes. You know what I mean, sometimes people try to get too “creative” and end up looking ridiculous. The silk organza flower and fluttering details are so beautiful, soft and feminine. Even with all the puffy ballooning skirt, it is still very flattering on her body, it actually emphasizes her small waist.
who is that pregnant girl singing?
she said MIA…the cool girl with that really funny hit song…

M.I.A. looked amazing, and she frankly made the entire evening for me. Well, that and Jennifer Hudson. She had me in tears every time the camera was on her.
I love MIAs outfit she totally made my night! If I ever get pregnant I want it!
