As fun as Valentine’s Day can be for adults, it’s even better for tots especially if a bouncy castle is set up in the backyard for them to enjoy. Who doesn’t miss exchanging silly cards with friends and classmates? Simple Valentines are just the tip of the red and pink iceberg, though. There are thousands of craft and snack ideas out there, and I love to try new ones each year with my girls. Here are a few of my holiday favorites:
Cupid’s Arrow Kabobs
This is so easy to do and requires very little cutting. Strawberries are the obvious fruit of choice for Valentine’s Day because they’re red and shaped like hearts. Just cut a triangular notch out where the stem is and voilà! After that, skewer blueberries followed by Cuties for the “quill” of the arrow.
Valentine Mailbox
All that’s required is a tissue box, construction paper, and Valentine stickers
My daughters made these years ago and still keep them on their dressers all year long. When their grandparents visit, they always leave cute little notes behind. It’s really sweet. When inspiration strikes, I also send surprise messages to them that I know they’ll love, even if they won’t admit it!
Cupcake Flower Arrangements
One year at my daughter’s birthday party, we had flowers delivered and all of the kids made their own flower arrangements. It was so much easier than I thought it would be, and they turned out beautifully. My tots loved doing it and have enjoyed arranging flowers ever since, so for Valentine’s Day, what could be sweeter and lovelier than cupcake flower arrangements? All you need are sturdy cupcake liners
Valentine’s Day Parfait
Avoid excessive candy consumption with a fun and fabulous yogurt parfait bar! With heart decorations topping elegant glasses, this treat is a sweet way to serve a delicious, healthy snack. Of course it’s best to opt for fresh fruits like strawberries and raspberries, but you can also throw in yogurt chips and yogurt-covered raisins for added texture.
Photo Ops
In the digital age, an occasion isn’t an official occasion without the perfect photo to accompany it. Many thanks to Craftionary for these ideas! My favorites are the ponytail hearts and the umbrella raining hearts. The umbrella is easy to make with die-cut paper hearts and string, and how fun would it be to take it out when it really rains?
