Other than stocking up on sunscreen and flats, the only other thing to do for summer is get a really great haircut, right? This is the most popular time of year to get a cut for obvious reasons. For the greatest summer look, I asked celebrity stylist Michael Dueñas what he thinks this season’s big trend is. Michael’s impressive client list includes Shailene Woodley, Cara Delevingne, Lea Michele, Mariah Carey, Connie Britton, and Lady Gaga.
“For summer cuts, the latest trend is softness. We are getting away from really harsh lines. The ends of the hair are softer…have more of a “flow” to them. The cut we are seeing the most right now is between a lob and a bob. It has soft, subtle movement; longer layers; and a slight angle from the back to the front. Nothing drastic – like the graduated bobs that were popular in the early 2000s, but just slight. This gives the illusion of more hair, as it builds volume in the back and length in the front, still giving you the ability to pull your hair up in a ponytail, or do that updo you love so much!
Layers in the front of the hair are getting longer as well; not seeing as many short bangs – But leaving the bangs long enough with the ability to pull the hair back easily. This is also done so a slight wave can be left in the front, which again, creates more softness.”
