Maison Margiela has been headed in an encouraging direction in recent months, and a bag like this proves they’re showing no signs of slowing down their promisingly pared-down streak. This bucket is surprisingly (and pleasantly) simple for Margiela, but it’s not without notable details.
Unlike most of the bucket breed, it features internal compartments. The smaller back section has a snap closure to keep goods secure, while the main area sports a pull-through tab that makes for an aesthetically attractive detail that you can tighten accordingly, although don’t expect to close entirely. And like many smartened-up buckets we’re seeing these days, it’s got a flat silhouette along the rear, making it less bulky and three-dimensional and more flattering to wear against the body. Tend to steer clear of white bags? This heavily-grained leather allows the notion of wearing white to be a reality, since the texture makes it easy to clean the dirt that comes from normal wear (that does NOT include coffee or red wine!).
When it comes to this crossbody-to-shoulder style, I like the mini version. It’s a good size that understands how to compromise, compared to the other variations, which are way too large. Maison Margiela bag on MATCHESFASHION.com for $1,259.
