Who doesn’t love Nutella? I saw an Instagram post that read, “you can’t make everyone happy…you’re not a jar of Nutella.” And it’s so true!! Until you read the calories, sugar, and fat content, that is. The problem, at least for me, is that when I get my hands on a jar I ALWAYS eat a few (dozen?!) spoonfuls. Saying it’s easy for me to eat 500+ calories of the chocolaty spread is an understatement. Now a new brand, Buff Bake, is looking to give addicts a healthier alternative.
Before you get too excited, I’m not saying that this is anything close to a health food (in the way that say, celery or a banana is), but the brand uses only clean and recognizable ingredients to make their almond and peanut butters, which come in a variety of flavors (Skippy addicts you’ll want to check the brand out too for a less processed alternative). Their chocolate chip peanut butter, for example, is made with nothing aside from roasted peanuts, whey protein, coconut palm sugar, dark chocolate chips, unsweetened cocoa, coconut oil, chia seeds, and flax seeds. Flavors are all enhanced with whey protein, chia, and flax seeds, so while it’s still relatively high in calories (two tablespoons have around 200 calories – plus or minus depending on the flavor), they don’t have too much saturated fat (and the fat that they do have comes from nuts), the sugar content is also really low (some have just two grams), and all flavors are high in protein and fiber and sodium-free.
I’ve tried a few flavors, and it’s pretty impossible to pick a favorite. They taste great on bananas, apples, or mixed in with a smoothie, especially if you freeze it a bit. Just be careful because like Nutella, it’s very hard to stop eating these!!
