At the moment, Giuseppe Zanotti isn’t just serving up his standard selection of traffic-stopping shoes. He’s also delivering an interesting twist on the backpack. This offbeat, rectangular silhouette, almost reminiscent of an oversized dopp kit or travel case, reminds us that a bag doesn’t have to have that traditional knapsack shape in order to be a backpack.
In smooth black nappa, punctuated by silver hardware including shark tooth-inspired zipper pulls, it’s small, sleek, and tough. In military green canvas with panels of brown leather and an explosion of glittering beads and crystal embellishments, it’s a great mix of tomboy-casual and delicate-femme. The petite size is easy and great, but it’s the heavily accented version that makes a true statement. Either way, this backpack is definitely for the girl who thinks – and dresses – outside the box.
But don’t think you have to sport it with both straps in action. Surprisingly functional, it also works well to wear it slung nonchalantly over the shoulder, and it won’t swing around. Small nappa backpack, $1,125, and embellished large leather backpack, $2,695, both available on Luisa via Roma.
