This structured Bertoni top handle tote possesses a great classic shape and features a cool trio of three-dimensional stripes, but that’s not what got me hooked here. I’m most interested in the bag’s unique closure. It’s a ball that glides through the keyhole opening, then slides over it to “lock” shut. I have never seen anything so ingenious, ever. I’m so in awe, I almost have to have it, mostly because such a detail is one of those things that makes me feel like I actually haven’t seen it all. I’m reminded that every day is yet another exciting adventure in the bag world.
Back to the tote itself: the stripes are also a bit different. Instead of regular racing stripes, these are firm leather strings attached through acutely tailored slit openings. In fiery orange and white, they add up to a gorgeous color combination that makes the mandarin-meets-goldenrod hue of the body even brighter and more thrilling. Bertoni has been handcrafting their bags in Italy since 1949, and the brand’s experience shows. A vibrant yet grown-up piece for the detail-oriented, this is made to last and evolve with you. Bertoni bag available for pre-order on Moda Operandi for $3,460 (expect delivery by March 1st-April 15th). Moda Operandi Bertoni trunk show ends on December 1st.
Pair with: Go for business-bold with Altuzarra’s cotton shirtdress, where daring red checks purposely clash with banker-blue stripes for a mismatch that feels so right. On My Theresa for $1,009.
