A good friend of mine, Jane Lerman, quietly started her own line of handbags as a creative side project. She runs her own PR agency and showroom, and her handbags quickly caught the eye of not only friends like me, but editors and bloggers who were coming to her office to pull looks for various shoots. She was never planning on launching her own line but because of the demand she had a few models of each style produced and started e-commerce, naming her line BLACKSEA. Though her background is in public relations, she hasn’t done a formal push to get her bags any attention…they’ve kind of just been generating their own buzz and I’m so proud of her!
Obviously I’m a little biased, but just because we’re friends doesn’t mean I would wear a bag out that I didn’t actually like and I happen to really like BLACKSEA. The Broadway Brief ($899), is my current fave, but she’s given us an exclusive sneak peak at what’s to come for Spring 2015 and I love, love the bag pictured above. While the current and Spring collections were produced in NYC, the new collection will be produced in Italy and will range in price from $425 to $645. Jane told me that she was inspired by crushed ice and metal, so she sourced metallic leathers that had interesting textures and reflective properties that reminded her of those things.
