Don’t fix what’s not broken, right? The ID-bracelet motif is still working for Maison Martin Margiela, and I’m continuously fascinated by their creative iterations. Originally interpreted as a shoulder strap, the concept looked great but amounted to a lot of extra weight so I’m excited to see a rendition that feels just right.
For me, this style makes perfect sense, since a clutch allows you to, duh, clutch the bag, while the oversized ID chain sits smartly over your hand, simultaneously keeping your grip in place and providing a cool visual focal point. Monochrome black adds to the downtown-inspired impact, and if you decide you’re over the chain-link strap, it’s removable. Then again, beware of doing that: suddenly you’re left with a bag that is seriously lacking in inspiration and detailing…which leads me to my next point: Why is this bag so expensive when all it consists of is a leather pouch and a chunky chain? I guess some questions just can’t be answered, at least not to my satisfaction. Maison Martin Margiela medium leather bag on thecorner.com
