Danish designer, artist, and architect Verner Panton blurs the lines between art and furniture with his Living Tower. This is modern design at its best (or rather, mid-century modern design at its best, as this was dreamt up back in 1968). It’s like an indoor tree house, only much more chic and comfortable. The upholstery coats soft foam, so this isn’t some inaccessible piece of art – it truly is furniture.
The German-built Tower makes lounging more fun (not to mention more space-saving) than ever, especially for tots who love to climb. They certainly won’t be the only ones to enjoy it, though. This allows everyone who ventures in to truly experience their environments, instead of taking them for granted. “Living landscapes” played a large role in freewheeling ‘60s design, but the idea is just as important today, if not more so. Panton said of his pieces, “The main purpose of my work is to provoke people into using their imagination and making their surroundings more exciting.”
One of my first thoughts was how great this would be for Instagram photo ops! It would be the talk of every party you held, and to relive the memories, all you’d have to do is take a seat in your living room. Verner Panton Living Tower available in red, blue, or chocolate on hivemodern.com for $16,125.
