My gorgeous friend Dareen Hakim has charmed me once again with a bag as original as it is sensible, two often-dueling qualities that she’s managed to make a trademark of hers. Ever-inspired by architecture, Dareen has named her latest style after France’s famed royal palace, but there’s nothing old-fashioned or even Rococo about it.
Actually, this chain-strapped envelope clutch – ideal for tossing over your shoulder as you dash from errands to a festive lunch to evening cocktails to a night out – is super-modern. The designer’s signature infusion of sharp brass trim coyly peeks out from beneath the flap, bringing two contrasting, colorblocked Italian leather tones together. Take your pick between pared-down black and white, perfectly pastel grey and mint, or best of all, lightly feminine grey and wisteria (a pale lavender hue). I’m all about the last combo for instantly getting set for spring; the pairing is so soft yet juxtaposed against stern brass, it feels effortless and bold. But in any palette, Le Versailles is an easy favorite for daily use. At Dareen Hakim for $415.
Pair with: The gladiator is back! This would look cool and unexpected with Stuart Weitzman’s knee-high (and apology-free) gladiator sandals in glittering pyrite. At Bergdorf Goodman for $398.
