Anya Hindmarch Imperial Matchbox Clutch: Matchstick Women

Anya Hindmarch Imperial Matchbox Clutch

I have complained that Anya Hindmarch veered too far off into Novelty Land with her Capri Sun-lookalike foil-pouch clutch, but her sense of adventure isn’t all bad. Actually, she’s proven she has a real sense of savvy and even outright originality for the spring season.

I am totally loving the new collection of England’s Glory minaudières. The concept of printing old-school matchbox covers on python is cool enough to make Charlotte Olympia’s kitty-face clutches and Olympia Le-Tan’s kitschy book bags feel overdone. Whether you appreciate the pared-down yellow face of the Ship Imperialicon, the England’s Glory air of British prideicon, or the subtle femininity of the Swan Vestas motificon, these boxes will light your fire. Or at least ignite some attention.

Scaled to the perfect tiny size that that your hand fits around, the tiny minaudière gives off the mood of a genuine matchbox (too big and the effect is ruined) yet it’s still big enough to fit a phone (iPhones only; a Galaxy would be too large). The element of whimsy is not be denied, but these clutches are created with such sophistication, they become statements unto themselves. Anya Hindmarch Imperial Matchbox clutch at MATCHESFASHION.COM for $1,845.

Pair with: Keep your caprice to a minimum. Sharpen up with Roland Mouret’s stretch-knit pencil skirt, in appropriately graphic black and white. On NET-A-PORTERicon for $755.

  1. Hi Kelly,
This actually has nothing to do with the post 🙂 but I wanted to share a great resource:

A good consignment site for anyone looking to buy or sell is Ann’s Fabulous Finds (annsfabulousfinds.com). I’ve consigned with them and can tell you that they take authenticity very seriously and are extremely thorough.
