Am I the only one who could sit down and eat a whole box of cereal? I’m a total addict. Unfortunately most cereals are pretty unhealthy (don’t be fooled by nutrition labels – many granolas and sugary cereals label one serving size as 30g versus the traditional 50-60g so you might think you are buying a 110 calorie cereal with 6g of sugar, but it’s more like 200-plus with 12g per serving!). Even Kashi cereals, while usually being high in protein and fiber and low in fat, are often loaded with sugar and many are high in calories.
The one exception is Ezekiel‘s cereal (excluding boring plain oats, of course). There are four varieties and aside from their raisin one, they all have 0g of sugar, while being high in protein and fiber. They have 200 calories for 57g, which isn’t bad given how filling it is compared to most other cereals. The problem is that because there are no fillers and no sugar in Ezekiel (all sprouted grains – Organic Sprouted Wheat, Organic Malted Barley, Organic Sprouted Barley, Organic Sprouted Millet, Organic Sprouted Lentils, Organic Sprouted Soybeans, Organic Sprouted Spelt, etc.), they taste well…like not very much of anything! I could never eat any of these on their own and be satisfied, but I mix them in with Barbara’s Puffins or Kashi Autumn Wheat, which helps balance out the sweetness in both of those cereals (those two options are two of the best when it comes to healthy cereal). Cereal balance! The combo is at once healthy and satisfying.
