Urban Weather Station

Finding information and stats on the outside temperature is easy, but if you’re looking for stats on what’s going inside your home, things aren’t as simple as an iPhone swish – until now. Thanks to the Urban Weather Station, which consists of two cylindrical units (one is meant for inside and uses a USB and the other for outdoors, which uses AAA batteries), that monitor a range of environmental elements inside and outside of your home and deliver the information wirelessly via your smartphone – it’s possible. I’ve been playing around with the new gadget for a few weeks now and I can’t say that I’m entirely convinced that it’s a must-have. It’s great, don’t get me wrong, but for the most part I only need to know the humidity level in my apartment – which I do thanks to my Air-o-Swiss humidifier and the temperature outside which I find out thanks to an app on my phone. This however also tells you temperature, air pressure, CO2 levels and sound levels inside your home, while the outdoor unit measures temperature and humidity in addition to outdoor temperature and indoor humidity. There’s also a seven-day forecast and outdoor air quality index.

If you live in a city with bad air quality I can see this being very useful, especially if you workout outdoors and are flexible about when you can run errands as you can use this to monitor optimal times, but $179 seems like a steep price to pay otherwise. What are your thoughts on the new gadget? I will say that whether you opt for this gadget or not, tracking indoor humidity is very important this time of year! Come dry winter months skin is likely to breakout and crack if you’re not regulating your indoor humidity…eek!
