I’m so boring when it comes to what I like to eat. I like things plain…not much sauce, nothing spicy, and I’m not big on herbs or spices. Unfortunately I have very poor circulation (even though I workout all the time!!), and my doctors keep telling me that if I want to avoid feeling like I’m freezing all the time the easiest thing to do would be to spice my food. Adding herbs and spices is also an easy, low-calorie way to flavor foods, not to mention that they come with a host of health benefits from fighting inflammation to helping ward off certain cancers and lowering blood sugar levels.
Now a juice company, Manjoor Estate, has launched a line of juices, coconut waters, teas, beers, and other beverages all infused with herbs and spices. Turns out that while everyone is focusing on fruit and vegetable juices, herbs and spices have more disease-fighting antioxidants and compounds than most fruits and vegetables, and these juices make them easily accessible (though if you’re like me and not used to them…drink slow!!!). They have six juices each priced at $13, and each comes with an outline of what they’re made with. For example, 2 Earth has a fruit-infused Greek yogurt base with Saffron (used for depression, Alzheimer’s, and high cholesterol), Turmeric (used for Alzheimer’s, cancer, diabetes, and heart health), and Peppercorn (used for arthritis, heart disease, brain function, and cancer). They also sell kits if you’re looking for more than one juice. These aren’t meant to be used as a cleanse, but rather to complement food. Sounds like a great kick-start to 2014 to me!
