Spain’s most quintessential bag brand has come together with two of the country’s most innately glamorous ladies. Loewe’s former Creative Director Stuart Vevers has since moved on to Coach, and this sister-act collaboration with Penélope and Mónica Cruz is the designer’s parting gift.
Out of the Cruz collection (which also includes wallets), they started with the Amazona bag’s shape as the base; then added a buckle-topped front pocket. The addition of these details changes the personality entirely. Now it’s fresh and young, with an attitude that borders on schoolgirl charm. Designed to adapt from morning to evening, this bag is so cute! While the neutrals in black and muted blue are great, the polka dot versions (the sisters were inspired by dance, especially flamenco, which led them to the pattern) make the Cruz feel too youthful and specific – almost too cute. As long as Loewe and their honorary designers keep it simple and somewhat restrained, they’ve really got something going here. Available at Loewe on November 1st.
