Carolina Herrera has always been known for her sophisticated look, and while the Spring 2014 collection certainly fulfills that expectation, it takes things a step further thanks to its inspiration – the Kinetic Art movement. The designer’s signature romantic, billowing organza was there, but with a techno edge that shone through in both the accents and the construction. Subtle cutouts and not-so-subtle (yet completely delectable) embellishments played with your perception as they danced under the lights. Between the sparkles and the negative space, your eye was always drawn to the details.
Herrera filled the runway with gorgeous prints, soft lines, and sheer silhouettes. Considering the multitude of celebrity it-girls – Uma Thurman, Michelle Dockery, Christina Hendricks – lining the front row, it’s safe to say that these gowns will find their way onto the red carpet sooner than later. What was in short supply? Pants (unless you count the organza overlaid bikini bottoms!). Honestly, though, I didn’t miss them. Her dreamlike creations make you want to embrace your femininity to the fullest, and she’s given us a season’s worth of options ranging from shorter dresses to full-on evening gowns. Thanks to the richness and splendor, I left feeling completely satiated.
