1. Use Color – Boldly
Living without color is like living without love. Experiment with color. Make a mood board of tear sheets and design images that inspire you. Use neutrals and metal patinas to ground louder color schemes. For example, gunmetal can make pastels feel less precious for a look that is richer and more elevated.

2. Create a Hierarchy
Play with scale and choose a range of textures. I mix cool marbles and soft woods with metal accessories and accents peppered throughout a space in assorted patinas. Raw, natural elements set against refined, elevated design creates movement and dialogue in a room for a look that’s eclectic yet balanced.

3. Choose Beautiful, Functional Items
I always consider functionality when choosing accessories. On my vanity at home, I often use my home objects in unexpected ways – metal and combed wood trays or dishes for organization, a vase to hold makeup brushes, a bauble box to cleverly hide hair ties. I don’t prescribe to the notion that form should follow function. With a little forethought, anything can be both beautiful and utilitarian.

4. Mix Vintage and New
My interiors always feature a mix of contemporary and vintage pieces. Something old, something new – so the aesthetic feels found, soulful and curated. If everything in a room is new, the vibe can feel one note and cold. Cool, special flea market finds and spirited vintage collectibles give any space soul.

5. Take Risks
Taking risks is my favorite indulgence. Experiment. Find your voice. Try new things. It’s the only way to truly grow!
