Fall welcomes a great new bag from Marc Jacobs. With fur stoles, oversized Peter Pan collars, elements of lingerie (hot pants, anyone?), and lush overcoats, his ready-to-wear collection is all about the vintage vixen gone modern. Which is actually a good way to describe this bag. While The Grand Metropolitan feels fresh and different, it shows Marc is going back to his roots – and I love him for it. Clean, uncluttered lines is how he won my heart years ago.
Spotlighting classic lines and a glamorously traditional shape, it projects a vintage quality, but fortunately one that’s not overdone or in your face. Taupe goes with absolutely everything, a long shoulder strap lets you toss it on and go (while using the top handle translates to ladylike refinement), and surprising panels of brushed suede bring dimension into the mix. The contrast of the textures is subtle, but it makes the bag look sumptuous. And isn’t sumptuousness really what fall is all about? On NET-A-PORTER for $1,795.
Pair with: A red suede bootie, a la Gianvito Rossi, feels both avant garde, thanks to a deep slit, and simply chic, thanks to smooth curves. At Bergdorf Goodman for $750.
