Made for men, this face balm (I guess “moisturizer” doesn’t sound manly enough) is great to smooth on after shaving. It uses witch hazel as a natural anti-inflammatory and pain reliever. And fortunately, the balm ($38) doesn’t leave you shiny (boys would hate that!). According to my husband, a very patient test subject, the scent is “okay,” which really means that it’s good because if there was anything at all unpleasant about it, he would have grimaced and complained. It’s a light lavender-type scent with a hint of cedar. Not super manly or musky, which means I like it, too! The first ingredient is aloe – amazing for soothing and hydrating, but also requiring a few seconds to absorb. Depending on the guy, he may or may not have the patience for that.
I love the concept behind this line! Everything is made in Vermont from components that are 82% organic and 100% natural, according to their claim. Most ingredients are grown on family-owned sustainable farms. The production process is powered by wind energy, and the container is made from recycled materials. In spite of the earth-friendly approach, the theme of the brand is outer space. I’m a total sucker for anything space-related or sci-fi! But I guess it’s more of a guy thing, and the marketing team behind this company realized that. Their tag line is “Super Natural,” and then there’s, of course, the significance of the name Ursa Major, referring to the constellation. The celestial sphere is known as the “Great Bear,” which I imagine also relates to the great outdoors of Vermont. So many tie-ins! But back to the important stuff – the balm leaves the face very soft and smooth, doesn’t clog pores, and gives a nice supple feel without any sheen. Very manly indeed!
