Meet Overture, Judith Leiber‘s diffusion line, released right in time before the onset of holiday parties. Interesting name because Overture is also the “run-off” production label of my favorite wine, Opus One – so it has a good connotation for me already! I am liking this new contemporary collection a lot more than its far more mature older sister. Bringing a refreshing sense of modernism to Leiber’s sparkly, uptown aesthetic, the clutches are super-wearable and well-priced. As seen on the circular April bag ($495) – which isn’t my favorite, although I appreciate its sense of fun – and the multifaceted Danielle clutch ($495), there is a great playfulness to the shapes. Even the beading, like on the snake-embossed Vanessa minaudiere ($595), is fresh and not so old-lady. The cap-off of a resin bow cements the fact: young and girly is the new mood, and it’s a look that suits Judith well.
