A functional Chanel is worth its weight in gold. Unfortunately for my bank account, it actually costs its weight in gold, too. This shoulder style with thick chains (which are surprisingly lightweight because they are hollow…which should mean they are cheaper, right?) makes it a ladylike day bag. One that you can seriously use. You’ve also got a thick, adjustable, leather crossbody strap, which kicks it up a few notches. Now the lady-hobo has loads more street cred as a messenger, and the chain hangs distinctively across the top as a ideal accent.
It’s the perfect size for daily use and has a vertical outer pocket (where the double-C charm dangles) for quick answering of your phone. Finally, the bag closes with a magnet, which is where the problems begin for me. Everything was so great up until this issue! The half-moon shape gets distorted when the bag is held by the chain; the top collapses so the opening becomes rippled. Though not attractive, this is generally not a huge deal, but for a Chanel I expect – scratch that – I demand perfection, and at $4,200, I really demand it. Otherwise how can you justify four-grand for a hobo???
Available in this tweed-and-leather version ($4,200) and also in black, navy and maroon leather ($3,900).
