Oscar de la Renta Launches Essential Luxuries Today!

Not only is today the first official day of NYFW, but tonight is FNO! There are countless happenings and limited edition and new buys up for sale this year (who’s lining up at the Chanel store!??). Among the most buzz-worthy is Oscar de la Renta’s six-piece Essential Luxuries fragrance collection based off of the designer’s “mastery of fashion and his enriched, joy-filled life.” I had a chance to preview the collection a few days ago and am gaga over Granada and Santo Domingo (this one would be great for a man as well), both of which will be sold starting today exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue ($150 for each 3.4 oz/100ml bottle), along with the designer’s four other scents. Each fragrance is accompanied by a detailed story from ODLR’s past. See below for more details!

Santo Domingo: “My great strength is knowing who I am and where I come from – my island.” A smooth, smoky tabac fragrance inspired by the tropical setting of ODLR’s birthplace. Notes include citrus fruits, tobacco, spicy mandarin, coriander, and patchouli.

Granada: “A garden is probably the most spiritual and pure of joys.” A citrus floral scent inspired by a memory that de la Renta has of walking through the patios of the Alhambra.  This is a sweet scent with notes of  jasmine petals and bitter orange.

Oriental Lace: “In the future someone might ask, ‘what is Oscar de la Renta?’ and you could say ‘it’s a pretty dress’ ” A dark oriental inspired by the designer’s love for rich fabrics, vibrant colors, and lavish prints. Notes include honey, bitter almond, dark cacao, and patchouli.

Mi Corazon: “There was an ylang-ylang tree in the square and when it bloomed Eliza and I could smell it all through the night. Every time I smell it, I go back there—smell is the longest recall of all senses.” A white floral bouquet inspired by de la Renta’s family and his passion for gardening. Notes include ylang-ylang and peach.

Sargasso: “Every home should be welcoming…an oasis.” Inspired by the Sargasso Sea, known for its deep blue-green color, notes include fresh citrus fruits, watery cucumber, and patchouli.

Coralina: “A fragrance is like a signature, so that even after a woman leaves the room, her fragrance should reveal she’s been there.” A classic floral meant to reflect the designer’s ladylike aesthetic. Notes includes mimosa, violet, orris, and woody green notes.
