Frugal Snob: Dove Refresh+Care Invigorating Dry Shampoo
Sharon Feiereisen
The other week Stylecaster hosted an event with Dove in the Hamptons to introduce Dove’s latest haircare products. I wouldn’t typically recommend buying haircare products at a drugstore, especially if you have colored hair – in fact, if one of my best friends didn’t work at Stylecaster (Hi Meg!), I would have never even given Dove STYLE+care Invigorating Dry Shampoo a try. Turns out even if it weren’t $4.89 the new oil absorbing dry shampoo would be a great buy. The one I typically use is Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo ($21), and it’s amazing; it sucks out all the oil in your roots, adds volume, and has a nice lemon verbena scent, but if you’re anything but blonde it may leave you looking like you dumped a pound of flour on your head (if you’re impatient you might end up looking that way even if you are blonde…). I’ve tried Oscar Blandi’s clear dry shampoo, but it doesn’t work nearly as well. Since it’s a spray, Dove’s dry shampoo is way easier to apply than Pronto which you have to sprinkle in your hands and rub together before applying. Don’t be fooled though by the Dove can, the dry shampoo is still a powder it just comes out in a burst of air. It sprays on white, but unlike most powders when you rub it into hair it clears up near instantly, so no worries even if you have black hair.
Dove launched a slew of other products as well including Thermal Replenishment Spray (to help protect hair while heat styling), Frizz-Free Shine Cream-Serum (to nourish and impart shine), Nourishing Dry Ends Serum (to nourish dry ends and smooth away frizz), and Strength & Shine Extra Hold Hairspray (for hold without stiffness). Check-out all the products here.
