There’s nothing not to love about the perfectly juxtaposing look of a just-fluffy-enough tutu paired with a classic military jacket. It’s the coolest blend of frilly and fundamental, deliciously dainty and rough-and-tumble. And it’s an ensemble that’s easy to put together, since most every little girl already has a tutu.
All you need is a khaki jacket in a contrasting color (you don’t want her to look like she’s wearing a suit that doesn’t quite add up). Juicy Couture’s olive-green jacket, complete with epaulets is a great take on the traditional – and a solid option if money isn’t an issue. But if it is, a fabulous frugal snob option can be found at Old Navy. Denim jackets deliver the same girly-tomboy vibe, and this bright white, cropped denim jacket ($19.50), with decorative button chest flaps, fits the bill – literally and figuratively! It will never go out of style, and can be worn with everything – but especially a tutu! Who says little girls can’t use some edge?
