I am obsessed with The Hunger Games. I read the entire series back to back to back, and I’m desperately hoping to be able to go to the premiere, pulling every string imaginable!!! In the story, makeup (along with wardrobe, of course) is of utmost importance. It sets the stage for depicting the divide between the 13 districts and the decadence of the Capitol. In the story, people in the Capitol make their skin different colors and the makeup is completely outrageous. Of course, it’s only logical that makeup artist, Ve Neill, used Make Up For Ever to achieve the right look.
Subtle and natural? Not here. The character Cinna, played by Lenny Kravitz, wears major gold eye shadow. Metal Powder ($22) was used to give him the supernatural look of the Capitol, but these hues are warm enough to suit Cinna’s warmth. This is a loose mineral powder so you have the freedom and flexibility to go all out, piling it on and one and on until you look like you’re made of metal. Don’t just limit it for the eyes! Top off your lips with a glint of shimmer, add it to your blush for some glow, or put it in your lotion for all-over body glimmer.
The HD Blush ($25) is serious stuff. This has the consistency of a foundation and will look totally opaque if you don’t blend it in. In order for blush to look exaggerated on screen, makeup artists have to use something this thick and coverage-heavy. It is matte; the finish is silky and smooth, but the color is so saturated it will cover up everything. Or just dab a speck on and blend it in well for a rosy cheek.
To keep everything in place, especially when you’re working long hours on a movie set, the Eye Seal ($21) is key. It intensifies color and it makes everything waterproof. You add this to your product; if you add this to the Metal Powder, you’ll get an ultra-intense, cream-based color that has ultimate impact when applied…like crazy! This is how you get pure gold eyelids.
When I go to the Premiere, I am totally going to go all out with my makeup. It will so much fun, I CANNOT wait!!!
