I got my first brown spot a few months ago and it’s a big one (ahh!!). It’s oval shaped and about 1/2 an inch wide on the right side of my face. Luckily it’s very close to my hairline so it’s not in an obvious place. I went to see my dermatologist about it because I wanted to make sure it was harmeless and luckily it is. She told me the only way to get rid of it was more or less to burn off the top layer of my skin there — honestly it doesn’t bother me enough to go through any kind of pain…burning!? Instead I opted to go for the pain-free route and I’ve been using Skyn Iceland White Cloud Spot Corrector ($55) twice a day since getting a sample a few weeks ago. The lightweight cream is formulated with natural lighteners like vitamins A and C, licorice, arctic berries, thyme and tree bark extract and it’s meant to be used AM and PM. It’s not particularly moisturizing (it’s meant to be used under a moisturizer/SPF), but it’s not dehydrating so no worries if you’re currently in a super dry climate. The cream also absorbs relatively quickly.
I’ve been using the spot corrector for about three weeks and can already tell my brown spot has lightened a bit (I wish I had a way to accurately measure, but it’s definitively a few shades lighter in a very short period of time). It’s still visible and I don’t think any cream, lotion, or potion will ever make it completely disappear but I’ll take a pain-less cream making it a few shades lighter over pain and perfection any day! Full results take six weeks and while I’m only using it on my brown spot, you can use it on your entire face to treat acne scares, dark patches, uneven skin tone, age spots, and fine lines.
