COOLA’s Sport range is one of my go-to SPF lines. It goes on sheer, is non-chalky, and most importantly it’s hypoallergenic and doesn’t clog my pores (I’m so pale and fearful of burns that when it’s hot out I’m a machine when it comes to sunscreen application!). The eco-conscious brand’s products are all packed with vitamins, natural phyto-protectors, and antioxidants and everything is produced in limited quantity batches in California for optimal quality control without paba, paraben, petroleum, and phthalate. COOLA has a ton of SPF products in all kinds of scents and shapes (sprays, creams, bars…), but they just recently launched non-SPF products for the first time with their Environmental Repair Plus line.
The line includes: Fresh Relief Face Serum ($68), Clear Recovery Foam Wash ($26), and Calm Glow Eye Gel ($56). Since eye creams and cleansers don’t typically have SPF and since serums are usually followed by moisturizers it makes sense that none of the products have SPF in them. I love the streamlined packaging because it appeals to both men and women and each of the products are made with at least 70% certified organic ingredients like radish root, Japanese seaweed, and alfalfa extract, all of which are known for their protective properties. I didn’t try the foam wash because I find foam cleansers to dehydrate my skin, but the eye gel feels great (in fact you can use it on other parts of your body after waxing, peeling or sunburn). Similarly the serum is lightweight, oil-free, and has an instantly invigorating feel so no worries about clogged pores or weighing your skin down even if you’re following the serum — like I did — with a moisturizer, primer and makeup.
