Tinted Moisturizers Plus SPF: Triple Threats

When it comes to fast-paced mornings followed by long days, tinted moisturizer with SPF is the only way to go. A single easy application does all the work – this is the only three-in-one product I can’t live without. Everyone makes them, but there are vital differences when it comes to how much tint you want (au natural or a done face?) and what’s right for your particular skin. Here are my favorites with varying levels of coverage and functions:

1) Caudalie Vinoperfect Day Perfecting Fluid SPF 15: Great for daily use, this multi-tasking moisturizer also improves your skin as you wear it. Caudalie’s formula provides subtle coverage – it can even be used as a primer since it doesn’t have much tint – so it’s great for days you want to keep it extra-light, maybe wearing no other makeup besides a light lip gloss. With patented Viniferine, a compound from grape vines, it has anti-aging benefits that also reduce dark spots. At Sephora for $68.

2) Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer Oil-Free SPF 20: Don’t be intimidated by the thick, shimmery appearance of Stila’s moisturizer. Looks scary at first, but once it activates with your body heat, it blends in seamlessly. I like to use a lot of it to ensure I get total SPF coverage. You also get a dewy glow with a slight sheen. It’s not a sparkle – more like you’re about to break an appealing sweat. Think sexy and youthful, not evening-glitzy.

It’s oil-free, so this is the top choice for those with oily skin. You get a nice matte feel and still look hydrated. A light nude shadow and pale lips gets you an innocent look with a naughty wink. At Sephora for $32.

3) Urban Decay Urban Defense Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20: The most foundation-like of the bunch, this gives you full coverage that’s still natural. Choose between four shades to get a perfect match. I used Bulletproof, which blended nicely, reducing my dark sports while evening overall tone. You’ll want a fully made-up face with Urban Defense – this silky texture demands a finished look. Yet it still feels light enough to add powder if you desire more coverage – the best of both worlds. At Sephora for $30.

  1. I’ve been searching for a good tinted moisturizer with SPF ever since Estee Lauder messed with their old formula (new one doesnt work for lighter skin tones). I’ll have to try these out!
