This ring is crazy! As in, literally insane. But wacko and fabulous aren’t mutually exclusive when it comes to all things in the world of fashion, and you can’t deny this ring is also very cool. Turkish jewel designer Sevan Bicakci (he began training at the age of 12 and has won awards for his wild designs and masterful craftsmanship) reaps inspiration from the Grand Bazaar and Sultanahamet areas of his homeland. He also seems to find his creative spark via the spookily supernatural and intriguingly out of context.
This exquisite gold and amethyst ring is set in an ornate array of white, black, and brown diamonds. It also reveals a cameo that isn’t so classic: inlaid in the shimmering, faceted stone is a freaky ghost lady. Or is she a morphed abstraction of the Virgin Mary? Regardless, as much as I’d like to glance away from her blurry yet hypnotic gaze, I can’t. Maybe I’m a sucker for sparkly things or maybe I’m just in awe. Talk about shock and awe – look at the price! I’m not sure this is a worthy investment for what’s basically a (very elaborate) gag ring. On Luisa Via Roma for $22,581.
