Pierre Hardy Patchwork Sandal: Party Favor

Patchwork? Technically, that’s what this embellishment is and I’m not one to usually go for it. But Pierre Hardy’s multi-texture sandal is more like a confetti-filled party than a stitched-together hodgepodge. He really knows how to create an air of visual cohesion, and with his background as a scenography teacher and illustrator, it’s no surprise that he effortlessly elevates his shoes to subtle modern-art level. Here, the varying materials and patterns work because the fine ratio is just right set against a welcoming nude.

Blush patent leather, glitzy metallics, and touches of cream snake-stamped leather start off sparsely around the toe. Just a couple smooth lines, as opposed to superfluous busyness, and the square-shaped peep-toe serves to further emphasize the straight lines of the “confetti” strips.

Then the drama starts to alluringly explode as it wraps around the ankle. With a thin and traditional ankle strap, you wouldn’t expect all that festive action on the sides – and that’s what makes it all work. Finally, there’s a stiletto heel, another detail used to pare down this party-time shoe. That sense of busy works Hardy has conjured up itself into one singular focus, one that’s both neutral and vivacious. At Barneys New York for $1,095.
