Maison Martin Margiela Shearling Lined Box: They’re Thinking Inside the Box

Just when I was starting to like Margiela bags, what’s this? A strange shearling surprise. I’ve pondered the question, but I just can’t come up with an answer as to why the interior of a box clutch would ever need to be lined with the fuzzy, nubby stuff. It might keep your phone comfy and protected, but all that super-thick shearling really doesn’t leave much room for anything else. Actually, this clutch is small to begin with – just 8” – so a cell phone is really the extent of what will fit. The good news is you could play catch with this thing on the street and your scaled-down cargo would be perfectly safe! Maybe Martin Margiela is just offering us the ultimate iPhone-holder (or container for whatever other precious little breakable you might have the need to carry).
Sure, the outside is a relatively cool stained and distressed brown leather, but the inanity of the inside kills it. A wrap-around zipper isn’t the ideal closure for a box bag to begin with, but I foresee problems of fraying shearling getting stuck in there. And I can’t help but imagine the need to take a Hoover to this after a few uses. I’m not even going to get into the price. Actually, I’m not sure this clutch is even worth mentioning, but it really struck a nerve!
