Look who’s shed their ribbons and bows! Lanvin has gone stark-raving FAB for fall, as evidenced by this subdued-chic bag. The frill level has gone down and lines have been simplified, but the cool factor has skyrocketed! Yes, technically there is some color-blocking going on here, but in such neutral, complimentary colors, it’s very subtle. The way the taupe-olive leather peeks out when the envelope bag is closed? Sublime. (Open it up, and it takes on a different tone that’s equally pleasing). But it’s the stitched-in metal hardware accents that catapult this piece from run-of-the-mill sophistication to heightened excitement – a just-slightly crafty look set on sleek metal that only Lanvin could pull off with such grace.
These days, I’m loving the top-handle clutch as an evening alternative – clutching just gets so tiresome sometimes. This envelope even comes with an optional shoulder strap, for a seamless day-to-night transition, which will be happening on the regular since this bag goes with absolutely everything. Enough said: Lanvin has struck gold with this one.
Since it’s not available online, you must call my SA in Beverly Hills to get one! Contact Renato at 310-402-0580. At Lanvin for $2,245.
Pair with: A simple yet detailed boot that will work for you 24/7, just like this envelope. Maison Martin Margiela’s grainy black leather ankle boot has an intriguingly sculptural metal plate running under the sole and a “mud splash effect” that’s surprisingly elegant. On Net-a-Porter
