New Scents for Fall: Jo Malone and Tom Ford

Jo Malone has such an incredibly loyal cult following I’m always in awe when I’m in their Madison Avenue shop and start chatting with one of the other customers because more often than not they’ll have dozens of the brand’s scents. The latest one to mix and match with is Wild Bluebell ($55) and in-house perfumer Christine Nagel has hit the mark again. She has a great way of working with unexpected ingredients (my favorite cologne of hers is English Pear and Freesia), and her new light dewy floral fragrance for Jo Malone has notes that include fresh bluebell, clove, Lily of the valley, jasmine and musk. It is designed to be worn on its own or paired with White Jasmine & Mint or Nectarine Blossom & Honey colognes.

Another must-have for fall is Tom Ford Private Blend Jasmine Rouge Eau de Parfum ($195). As soon as I got a whiff of this scent at a Fashion’s Night Out event I knew it was love. It’s a floral scent, but there’s nothing expected or commonplace about it. I know most of us here jasmine and think been there, smelled that, but come on, this is Tom Ford so you know it’s not going to be run-of-the-mill. The newbie scent has notes of Sambac jasmine, sage, bergamot, mandarin, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, neroli, ylang-ylang, leather, wood, and amber among others so it’s a complex scent with a perfect balance of floral and spice. Tom Ford is hands down my favorite when it comes to fragrances and as soon as I find one that I think is going to be my hands down go-to, I sample something new. Jasmine Rouge? White Suede? Santal Blush? Neroli Portofino? Who could pick just on favorite! Trust however that no matter which you opt for, people will stop to ask you about what scent you’re wearing.
