Art Deco polish and big city edge. Conical silver and whisper-thin chains. Earrings so long they’re bound to graze your shoulders. Pearl-like beads and a sharply angled, abstract scorpion. Leave it to New York City-based wunderkind designer Eddie Borgo, who has already made padlocks, U-bars, barbells, and bear traps look absurdly glamorous, to make ordinary silk tassels look unbelievably appealing.
The softness of the threads set against the coldness of the metal (silver-plated brass) on the Silk Tassel necklaces ($215) and earrings ($315) is striking. Bohemian flair meets light wear-ability – the red and green shades are clearly for getting noticed, while all it will take for the black to stand out is a faint breeze. But it’s the Tasseled Scorpion necklace ($815) that’s the masterpiece here. A wild mélange of big hematite beads and the surprise of a tassel dipping down from a violently geometric scorpion. I can’t wait to see what mysterious conversation pieces Borgo is set to show us next.
