Rough edges can be beautiful. Just look at the artful irregularity of this woven Prada bag. Unlike the tight perfectionist weave we’re so accustomed to on our Bottegas, this is loose and a little imperfect – and that’s why it’s full of charm and personality. If Bottega’s austere, impeccable bags are out of a slick, big-budget flick, this goatskin Prada bag is out of a grown girl’s fairy tale.
Essentially a Kelly style (the top handle with optional shoulder strap plus flap-and-lock closure), but this possesses a rustic ease that I actually prefer to the stern Kelly. It lies in the trim – boxy weave goes diagonal all along the edges, for a crafty, ethnic effect (no surprise it’s hand-woven in India). Yes, this bag is sheer novelty, so buy it on pure emotion if it speaks to you. Actually, for the price it should shout! I know I hear it loud and clear; there’s something so personal about this tote that had me at hello. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $2,650.
Pair with: Highlight the bag’s intricacy with a casual dress in an itty-bitty Liberty print. Aubin & Wills‘ rope-and-floral cotton is understated sweetness. On Net-a-Porter for $180.
I saw this bag at Prada in Beverly Hills yesterday. While it is quite beautiful, it is HEAVY!!
