Emilio Pucci Pony-Skin and Leather Clutches: Pucci Knocks Some Skin

pucci_clutch_collage.jpg

I am so pleased to see that Pucci has veered away from printed bags, proof that brilliant couture sometimes doesn’t translate to the accessory. Peter Dundas came swinging into the design house a couple years ago with leather, studs, fringe, and miniscule skirts ablaze. And much of his tough-luxe aesthetic does translate to clutches, as seen on these fraternal triplets.

Whip-stitching, studs, and pony hair might sound like the ingredients for a bad Western, but instead of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, this is all good! There is a measured balance of these could-be tacky elements here; much of the success is the fold-over style, which has a cool vibe with just the right amount of rock ‘n’ roll. All in all, it makes for a casual evening clutch that doesn’t require a fussy outfit. And better yet, it can turn you right from boring to roaring.

I’m enjoying all three variations – spotted, dark and mysterous leopard, and classic leopard. Do you have a favorite? On Luisa Via Roma for $1,470.

Pair with: An evening-ready ankle-boot completes the look. Christian Louboutin keeps the suede bootie far away from any chunk or heft. Christian Louboutin“Lisse” Ankle Bootie, $895.
