If I happened to receive a midsummer invitation to a prairie picnic, I would want to wear an embroidered white prairie dress and carry this bag. And maybe really cute raffia flip-flops with flowers on the thongs. But that is a very specific (and kinda unrealistic) adventure!
Needless to say, this is not a serious encouragement to buy Miu Miu‘s raffia bag, but it sure is cute. A “look, don’t buy” item – the type that makes window-shopping fun, not frustrating. I’ll be blunt: woven raffia looks cheap – like it should be cheap. Not $1,450, whether it’s Miu Miu or any other label, and even when it’s decked in eye-catching hardware and smart leather trim.
To me, a satchel like this is fun and novel for certain summer looks that require a bit of storybook charm, like you’re skipping off to grandma’s house, minus the witch or wolf that eats kids, of course. But I have no problem reserving way-whimsical and slightly less-than-luxe bags for the fairy tales for now. On Net-a-Porter
Pair with: Milly‘s “Ksenia” gauzy maxi dress is romantic country-chic. A blousy linen skirt, wooden buttons, multiple pintucks, plus your raffia picnicking bag – all you’re missing is Hansel. On for $525.
