Marc By Marc Jacobs Skinny Hinge Enameled Bracelet: Hush Your Jewels

Let me start by saying, I have a million pieces of jewelry like this. Whether it’s Coach, Marc Jacobs or Juicy, throughout the years I have come to acquire many pretty things that say brand names, and I have come to the sad conclusion that minus a few exceptions, I think I have to graduate from this trend. Here is how I came to this decision: While working at a major handbag company a few years ago during a sample sale, the more senior girls took me under their wing to help me get the best booty possible in the limited time we had to snatch up what we could. Being 22 at the time, I went straight for everything that said the brand name. Signature bags, scarves, key chains, anything I could get my hands on that said the label because, by golly, I wanted people to know what I was wearing! The girls looked at my loot and quickly swapped a signature bag for a supple, pretty leather one that did not shout a name, and a bracelet with writing all over it for a chic jeweled charm bracelet with delicate figures and pretty details. I was changed forever.

Items like the Marc Marc By Marc Jacobs Skinny Hinge Enameled Bracelet are super cute, trendy and often can be worn everywhere from the office to a big night out on the town, but at what age should you stop advertising for the label? Granted a label here or there or a patterned scarf is a nice touch and totally acceptable, but for something to be worn solely for the fact that it has a high end designers name on it is a little bit like announcing how much your husband paid for your birthday present. No one asked, so why give up the info? These pieces are generally priced lower so to grab the younger customer’s attention as well, so they get the name at an affordable price and are able to display it. Great marketing on their part, but at 26, I have to say I an shying away from being a walking billboard.

So, with all do respect and complete recognition of the cuteness of these pieces, I would say at some point, everyone should take inventory of their jewels, and see what can be passed on to the teenagers anxiously awaiting in the wings, and move on to big girl jewelry. Where the names are whispered, the style is pronounced, and the look speaks for itself. Happy graduation!
