The most remarkable aspect of this bag is that it is gravely different from Bally‘s usual slouchy-luxe and leather-centric designs. Dove-white canvas with a concise black leather trim is a crisp new direction for the label. Or maybe just a springtime anomaly. Verging on a paper grocery-bag shape, it’s sleek, conservative, and geometric – which makes me want to see how far I can push the styling with this number. I just don’t know how far I can stuff this alleged tote; a super-narrow bottom seam means an awkward shape if you put too much in it, and petite top handles also suggest light packing. A city version of the beach bag – Bally, I’m a little perplexed. In a good way. On Net-a-Porter for $750.
Pair with: I can’t resist the urge to turn it up a few notches. A city version of the sandal in a high-octane shade does the trick. Diane von Furstenberg’s espadrilles in hot yellow are a prime example. Loud shoes and a quiet bag even out. On ShopBop for $255.
