I’m the kind of gal who will get scalp burns if I don’t lather my hair in SPF, that’s how sensitive my skin is. A traumatizing experience, where I mixed up my moisturizer with my SPF, and spend a day sailing around the Hamptons on my dad’s boat only to end up with a heat stroke and a burn so bad I was lucky to not have any permanent damage (aside from the shame of looking like a tomato for weeks!), has made me extra, extra cautious. I’ve tried a few powder SPFs before, but none of them felt substantial enough to put my mind at ease that I was properly protected and worse yet, I usually couldn’t tell where exactly I’ve applied the powder when I’m already wearing makeup. Given my past experience,
Chantecaille’s Protection Naturelle Loose Powder SPF 46 ($65) wasn’t something I would ever consider until I saw it at an event at Barneys where makeup artist Jason Ascher picked it as one of his all-time faves. This baby comes out like pow! Make sure to not have anything you would mind getting powder on when you put this on! It gave my skin the most baby butt smooth texture and even though I’m pale, pale, pale I opted to try the Bronze shade. Not only could I tell texture-wise where I had applied it, but the color helped set my liquid foundation, which I imagine will help prevent major dripping once it starts getting hot here in NYC.
Knowing myself I will still make sure to wear moisturizer with SPF underneath my makeup, but I’m definitely replacing my NARS Barcelona powder foundation with this one.
I’ve been seeing more of these powder SPF products lately and I’m curious to see how they work for me. But I’d also still wear a regular sunscreen under them because I’m really paranoid about getting burned/sun damage.
My skin is superduper sensitive, too, and before SPF powders came out I had to be so careful when I went out. Not anymore! Powder SPFs are a must-have lifesaver for me and I’ve never had a problem with them.
