This clutch looks deceivingly normal. I want to like it, but on further inspection, you see it has a hard flat bottom (like the bottom of a bucket tote) that the bag folds over, crumpling across the hard bottom. In such a bulky patent leather, it looks stupid unless you precariously hide that part when clutching and you never want to put it down because then you can see how awkward the bag really is. Sounds complicated, right?
I know Alexander Wang, always determined think outside the box, is trying to come up with an ingenious bottom detail (his multi-studded bucket bags were heavy, yes, but cool), but this is a big miss. It’s a shame since the front has interesting details, in the light gold hardware corners, press-stud tabs and seams, and the bronze color is a great evening neutral for maximum versatility. Pair with: If you’re going to have a big clutch in your hand all night, at least wear a bold and intriguing ring (and maybe you’ll deflect attention from the peculiarity of the bag), like Roberto Cavalli‘s Crystal Acorn ring. On Net-a-Porter
