Thanks to Punxsutawney Phil declaring spring is just around the corner, I can’t stop thinking of spring/summer and everything I can do during it. I also can’t stop wondering why we let a rodent decide the length of our seasons, but I’ll let it go for now. To keep my mind and eyes away from the dreary-ness of late winter I have been on the hunt for additions to my warm weather wardrobe (including recently buying 4 swimsuits online because I can never choose just one). Enter the Yves Saint Laurent raffia roady large hobo. This bag just screams sunshine. Raffia is such a summer textile and with this roomy shape and snap top closure, this bag would be the perfect companion in the coming season. It would compliment any sun dress but also could transition easily to the office because of its black leather handle and interior lining.

Yes, this is very summer and nice, but I am getting a little tired of this simple shape from YSL done over and over again in different colors and textures. I know all designers do this (less work than creating something new), but there is something about this particular bag that bugs me. It may be too simple for the price tag – I don’t know. Anyway, nice enough for summer, but I’ll pass.

I like the simple design of this bag but it doesn’t look very special for the money. After I saw it at Nordstrom’s I changed my mind, it is Wow. I saw it in leather and fell in love with it and now I love the new raffia. I wouldn’t spend over $1000 for the rafia, I would go with leather than can be worn year round. My only concern is the handle – how comfortable is it on the shoulder?
It may dig a bit. It is a little thin on a bag with that shape. I guess if you pack light it may work!
