A love of the Great American Plains inspired Kate & Laura Mulleavy’s fall collection, a great ode to poetic expression that was dreamy and ethereal. It was seen through the eyes at golden dusk, of a natural light to tell the landscape. Those stalks of tall corn, in a sense, came in the form of the evening gowns with blue skies permeating across the fabric. While there was plenty to admire in this collection, it was the draped necklines that truly stood head and shoulders above all else. What else was magnified? The handcrafted Amish geometric paneling on garments that evoked nostalgia for the vintage log-cabin patchwork-quilt designs. “Days of Heaven” and “The Wizard of Oz” were also apparent in the more gentle collection–a simple bouclé wool coat cinched at the waist and flared paired with a polka-dotted creamy chiffon dress. When it came time for sundown, the evening dresses were standouts (a favorite feature was the crisscross strap effect that layered the fabric beautifully).
