Only Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez could make Native American Indian look this incredibly chic and desirable. For fall the unrivaled duo took a road trip–from Sante Fe to Wyoming, to be exact–and used a collection of blankets they amassed along the way as the starting point for their ingenious fall collection. But if you thought it was going to just be a pile of comforters tossed onto the runway, then you had another thing coming. Taking their basic concept and fine tuning it to utter refinement, the collection comprised a striking portfolio of strong geometric shapes made for a powerful and complex collection to take in. Knits were mostly oversized and worn with jodhpur-shaped pants while three-dimensional textures were a true highlight, including dresses cut in spirals that ran their way around the body like ivy. Like with most Proenza Schouler shows, there are new ideas to be had. In this one you had the art of deception: velvet that looked like pony skin; silk macramé weaved into black suede. It all made for a show that was complicated in construction, but utterly at ease to the eye. And pretty damn covetable, too.
